Should a foreign language be required for all students at the university? Why? Express your opinion on this issue. Don't forget to read your peers' postings and respond to them.
In my opinion, it is necessary to require students at the university to learn a foreign language. As a foreign language learner myself at the university, the most apparent benefit it brings to me is that I can get the opportunity to learn the knowledge I interest in abroad and accept further education in the first-class university from the advanced country like the US. With the increasing tightness of global connection, it is a broader trend for university students in China to learn a foreign language to expand their career development in the near future. Besides, a foreign language is the key to a foreign culture, a new way of thinking. Take English as an example, after I knew how English speakers express their opinion or argue on a topic, I began to learn how to do critical thinking and how to organize my viewpoints in more logical way. However, Chinese people have an obscurer way to express their feelings. What’s more, university students should get to know what is going on in the society, and the world. Through foreign language, they are able to know the world around them from more perspectives, not only from the domestic media but the media from other countries. Thus, they will not be misled or blinded by one side of story and learn how to choose the side they want to stand on.
